I graduated with a Degree in Civil Engineering and a Masters of Sciences specialising in Structural and Bridge Engineering. I spent most of my career (around 18 years) working as a design engineer within global consultancies around the world and was elected as a Chartered Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Engineering Council UK. I took an active role mentoring graduate engineers and worked closely with schools and universities, developing ‘work experience‘ programmes for students considering engineering as a career. I always felt that encouraging and inspiring young people to consider engineering as a career was important to me and I enjoyed doing it.
My transition into the education sector has provided me with first-hand experience of working with young children, seeing how they learn and engage with classroom subjects and activities. It highlighted to me a real opportunity to share my experiences and knowledge of engineering and make it more visible in their learning so they can make the connection between some elements of the national curriculum and the real world.
In 2018, I set up Engineers R Us especially for primary school children, which now offers an engineering lunchtime club, engineering after school club and workshops. I hold Enhanced DBS and Safeguarding Young Children Certificates, I‘m First-Aid qualified, a COVID-19 compliant business and I hold a Level 2 Certificate in 'Infection Prevention & Control' in Education.
When I'm not engineering, I love to be active, whether it’s gardening, junk modelling, running, spinning, travelling or enjoying day trips with my family. I'm a keen indoor skydiver, always striving to improve my flight skills. I'm an ECB certified children's cricket coach, actively involved with coaching and a youth football coach with the Met police youth football club. I'm also a skills instructor at 1st Molesey Scout Group and a professional reviewer with Engineers Without Borders where I review university student submissions for projects they submit on real world challenges.
